Sites in Trust Ownership

Currently the following sites are in trust ownership:

Burgh Castle near Great Yarmouth
the remarkable Roman fort, nearly 2000 years old and the surrounding land. The fort walls are in the care of English Heritage.

Caistor St Edmund near Norwich
a large part of the Roman capital of Norfolk, once called Venta Icenorum.  In dry weather you can actually see the lines of the Roman streets in the grass!

Tasburgh south of Norwich
a fort with earth ramparts, probably Iron Age.

Binham Priory in north Norfolk
the ruins of the Benedictine monastery in the care of English Heritage

St Benets Abbey in the Broads
the Benedictine Abbey in the Broads with the famous gatehouse and windmill so often seen in watercolour landscape paintings.

Bloodgate Hill, South Creake in north Norfolk
site of an eroded Iron Age fort rescued from further plough damage.

Filby Chapel near Great Yarmouth
the foundations of a sequence of Unitarian chapels with their eighteenth-century grave slabs in a peaceful meadow.

Middleton Mount near Kings Lynn
In Middleton, near Kings Lynn close to the A47, is this Norman motte and bailey earthwork castle, dating from the late 11 th or early 12 th centuries
