Heritage Open Days are back this year from 8 to 17 September, with thousands of free events throughout the UK.  This year we are hosting free events at St Benet’s Abbey.

St Benet’s Abbey – Fish & Chippings, Saturday 9 September, Wednesday 13 September, Saturday 16 September all at 2pm

This Guided Tour will demonstrate the creativity of the architecture and stone workers at the Abbey Gateway and unwrap the importance of Fish Ponds at medieval monasteries.

Our experienced Tour Guides will share the hidden secrets of St Benet’s Abbey and its iconic windmill. The tour will focus on the creative architecture and flint work used to make the impressive Gateway and unwrap the importance of the fishponds and visitors will be able to see some of the finest preserved ponds in the UK. The Bishop of Norwich is still the Abbott here, and why this is the only Abbey which avoided closure during the Dissolution. More details at Fish and Chippings
