We are delighted that one of NAT’s 2022 Heritage Open Days events has been celebrated in their alternative New Year’s Honours List!

Having worked on many HODS events over the years, using the theme of Astounding Inventions last year to create an eye catching event was a challenge. However ‘Champagne & Stinky Cheese: the accidental inventions of monks’ proved popular with visitors and the media, achieving a place in the Top 3 nationally for ‘Media Knockouts’. The call from the HODS Press Office about a potential Daily Star feature was unexpected, leading to a 2 page double spread – the power of a quirky title to spark interest, in this case from an audience not usually know for their engagement with heritage.

The event was created with, and delivered by, our wonderful St Benet’s Abbey volunteer team, supported by our social media volunteers. As a small charity, we use creativity, collaboration and team work to deliver great results.
