We understand the concern expressed by residents and local people around the fencing works at Moot Hill. Fencing the boundary has been necessary while surveys of the trees take place to understand their age and significance. We are also carrying out tree safety works that need to take place before the site can reopen to the public. We will also be undertaking further ecological and archaeological surveys and we are working closely with our partners on how the site can become a space where history and nature can thrive together.
The initial work to the site is being managed by South Norfolk Council as funders of Phase one of the Moot Hill project. Their contractors understand the sensitivities of the site and have used a small, tracked vehicle to limit any damage to Kett’s park and the footpath. Small trees and scrub have been removed along the line of the boundary, and we have been assured that the area along the fence line will recover.
We have since become aware that separate works were undertaken along the railway boundary by Network Rail contractors using a large wheeled vehicle. This has resulted in damage to areas of Kett’s Park and the Woodland Walk.
Network Rail has confirmed that it will take responsibility for repairing the damage caused. Wymondham Town Council is currently in discussion with Network Rail to agree a suitable programme for the remedial works. These repairs will be scheduled at an appropriate time, when ground conditions are drier, to ensure the most effective and lasting restoration of the affected areas.
We would like to reassure residents that the damage will be addressed and that all parties are working together to ensure Kett’s Park and the Woodland Walk are restored appropriately.
